About Us
The first editorial of this
Christian magazine in Australia written by
Rev. John Vanderbom in 1954, stated that Trowel and Sword “intends to
be a mouth piece for all of the Reformed persuasion in our countries…
the character of this monthly will be to give something for everybody…
we do not intend a theological magazine but a popular paper for the
Reformed family…. We do hope and pray that ‘Trowel and Sword’, in just
this practical way, may serve as a savouring salt in society..”
From the very beginning this Christian magazine in Australia was to serve the
Christian Reformed churches either side
of the Tasman Sea. Few people realize that while the first two editors (Revds.
John Vanderbom and Bill Deenick) were in Australia, Trowel and Sword was
first produced in New Zealand! This cross Tasman heritage remains to
this day with the identification of this Christian magazine never having changed
from its original mission statement:
Periodical for the Edification and Defence of the Reformed Presbyterian Faith and Life in Australia and New Zealand’. Even after the New Zealand churches began to produce their own ‘Faith and Focus’, subscribers are still found on either side of the Tasman.
Trowel and Sword is published in Perth, Western Australia by a team of four volunteers who make up the editorial team. It is printed by Digital Documents.
It is produced monthly with the exception of January.

Letters to the editor should deal with one subject only and should be kept to a maximum of 300 words. They may be edited for the sake of clarity or space. They may be sent via normal mail or sent to the editor via email.
