Review by Jo van Leerdam

Rise and Shine is the second Christian album for Randy Travis, a well established and very successful artist in the secular country music scene. At the time of writing this review, Rise and Shine is currently at #30 on Billboard's Top Current Country Albums chart and has been nominated for a Dove Award for "Country Album of the Year".

While he enjoys success in the secular country market, Travis loves writing and recording a Christian message. He is greatly encouraged by the feedback he gets about the effect his music has on people's lives, and by the most rewarding experience of performing for an audience that loves the Lord.

Travis’ experience and talent are evident in the quality of this album. Great songs and slick production combine to produce a smooth country sound complemented by Randy’s very capable and distinctive vocals. The tracks ranges from up tempo celebrations of faith and life to heartfelt ballads.

The lyrics clearly present the message of God’s love and provision for us, and convey Travis’s conviction of assurance of salvation and delight in walking daily with the Lord.

Through these narrative and expressive songs, Randy communicates his experience that knowing Jesus brings joy and comfort to everyday life, especially when things aren’t perfect.

I thoroughly enjoy the style and sound of this album. What I appreciate most, however, is that Travis does not dilute the gospel or compromise the truth to make his songs more palatable to his substantial non-Christian following. He can reach a large audience for the Lord, and that is exactly what he sets out to do with this album. He delivers the gospel of Jesus and invites the listener to consider the Lord and live in relationship with Him.
