Stanley Climbfall
Lifehouse
SKG Music/Universal© 2002

Review by Jo van Leerdam

I thought Lifehouse would find it difficult to follow their first album, No Name Face, with another of equal merit. I was wrong. Stanley Climbfall is brilliant both musically and lyrically.

There’s no such thing as monotony with this CD. This album offers a range of powerful guitar-rock tracks that showcase the creativity, maturity and strength of lyricists and musicians. The vocal ability of lead vocalist Jason Wade is just outstanding. From one song to the next, the pace and theme changes and the listener is taken on a journey through songs of searching, reflection and assurance. From the soaring “Wash” to the almost haunting quality of “My Precious”, there isn’t a moment on this CD that I’d skip.

My favourite track is “Spin”, a positive song of faith and assurance in an upside down world that keeps on spinning round which declares “All my life has found it’s meaning… You and I, I wouldn’t change a thing”. There are also two bonus tracks, one being an acoustic version of the third track, “Sky is Falling” which reveals yet another facet of the musicianship and talent of this band.

This is an enhanced CD that comes with a few extra features. Inserted into a computer, the browser will launch and you’ll be invited to look at the band’s “secret” website (not available except with the CD). Here you can listen to a couple of songs on streaming media, and see the members of the band talking about the new album. Anyone not having the CD can go to www.lifehouse.com for audio and video clips, some legal mp3’s and heaps of information about the band.

Stanley Climbfall is one of the best CD’s I’ve heard in a long time. I give it my wholehearted recommendation.
