Scribe Me A Note Review by Jo van Leerdam
The songs on this album are more than just personal reflections. The lyrics are often reminiscent of the psalms, and convey biblical images and references in a modern setting that is relevant and meaningful to a contemporary audience. The idea of being carried on the wings of a dove is not a new one, nor is the concept of a deer longing for water, but Cindy delivers these metaphors in a new and refreshing way that is profoundly personal, enhanced by her own poetry and imagery. Every song on this CD is a work of art, although I found ‘Colour Me’ and ‘Uncharted Waters’ to be particularly meaningful to me. Cindy has a beautiful voice – emotive, compelling and expressive. She sings clearly and powerfully, and delivers a soulful rendition of original songs that express her intense hunger for deeper relationship and communion with God. Both repentance and faith are expressed with honesty and sincerity. Cindy bares her soul in a way that the listener can easily relate to, so that there is a strong sense of empathy with Cindy and a real awareness of identifying closely with the emotions and ideas expressed on this CD. The CD has a musical style that suits Cindy’s voice perfectly, and the instrumentation complements her vocals with sensitivity and eloquence. The songs range in style from ballads to vocal jazz, giving the CD great variety and highlighting Cindy V’s individual flair. Overall, ‘Scribe Me A Note’ is an easy-listening album that is suitable for the whole family and which will bring great pleasure and edification to a wide audience. This is an album of which Cindy can be justifiably
proud, even while she gives all the credit to her Heavenly Father. I
give Scribe Me A Note my wholehearted recommendation, being sure that
you will enjoy and appreciate it as much as I do.
