Last year November Don Baird reviewed volume 1 of this book. Volume2 is
now off the press and for those who love reading Scripture with some
help these two books are highly recommended.
Books of daily devotional readings come in all shapes, sizes and
formats. Many use their text merely as a launching pad to pass on their
author’s opinions. Don Carson gives perceptive overviews and
explanations that help understand the text.
Another difference is that some devotional books focus only on one
verse. Carson takes a whole chapter and usually one does need to read
that chapter in order to benefit from the author’s contribution for that
day. For those who like to read through the Bible in one year other
suggested readings are included.
