Review by Rev. John Westendorp
Some of Jim Cromarty’s books for family devotions will already be well
known to many of our readers. A previous series included titles such as
“How to cook a crow” and “One that didn’t get away”.
Jim Cromarty is a Presbyterian (Presbyterian Church of Eastern
Australia) who was a primary school teacher for twenty-seven years and
then served another eight years as a pastor. The books have arisen out
of Jim’s concern for maintaining family worship and for communicating
the faith within a family context. His book contains many simple stories
that teach biblical truths. They are designed for family reading with
discussion starters and activities at the end of each story. This
present volume has a similar approach and style
As a Presbyterian Jim is not afraid to tackle difficult teachings and
his stories cover everything from satan to election and from angels to
anger. In a day and age when there is a lot of questionable material on
offer, even in Christian bookshops Jim’s books are good value – simple
yet often profound and geared especially to families with primary school
children. Grandparents, this makes a worthwhile birthday present or
Christmas gift for your grandchildren.
