Exposition of Chapter 12 – Christian Conduct
D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Banner of Truth, 513pp.
Review by Rev. John Zuidema.
This collection of sermons by Dr. Lloyd-Jones makes an excellent
commentary on the 12th chapter of Romans. Along with his other works on
this letter of Paul to the Romans, this one is a useful book to read and
have in one’s study.
The book contains thirty-five chapters, thoroughly and thoughtfully
covering each word and topic of interest for any serious Bible student
or preacher. Many pastoral issues are addressed, with helpful insights
throughout, particularly how they apply to Christian conduct, as well as
giving a simple, yet profound commentary on the meaning of the text.
Throughout this book, Dr Lloyd-Jones makes numerous references to other
texts in Scripture to add weight to his arguments, as well as quoting
material written by other scholars throughout the ages.
Often Romans 12 is referred to as the beginning of the practical part of
this letter. Dr Lloyd-Jones has certainly captured that in his writing.
One could say that Dr Lloyd-Jones is a little verbose in some areas, but
his thought provoking comments remain very relevant nonetheless. Dr
Lloyd-Jones has an excellent way of making doctrine come alive in some
daily, practical application.
If you have some or all of Dr Lloyd-Jones commentaries on Romans, you
would do well to add this one to your collection.
