Book Review

I’d like to Believe, but……
Michael Green & Nick Spencer
Inter-Varsity Press 2005 126p

Review by Ray Hoekzema

A truly valuable little book! Are you looking for some help enabling you to give meaningful answers to difficult questions? Posers like: Christians are such hypocrites! – You can’t trust what’s in the Bible! – There’s not enough proof for me to believe! – If there is a God, why doesn’t he send someone down? These are just a few of many claims made by unbelievers and addressed in this booklet.

Nick Spencer conducted a survey and examined the views of agnostics from the mainstream that make up 66% of the population of Great Britain. I venture to add, that figure would probably not vary all that much if such a survey was conducted in Australia. Spencer, by sifting out a number of agnostics on the basis of set criteria; and interviewing them, gathered a large number of their claims of the type just mentioned.

Michael Green then used some of these claims, made by real people in the real world. He will enamour you with his biblically intuitive and candid responses. I heartily recommend that you get hold of this little gem. You’ll find the contents very helpful and inspiring stuff.
