Sliding
Christina Verbrugge.’99
Oh Father let me be afraid
Lest I’d be self reliant
“Do it myself,” without your aid
My soul could act compliant.
When in this world, oh Lord
Your word gets tossed aside
Seemingly lost amidst the horde
Yet man must listen, when you chide.
Oh Father let me be afraid
Of sliding in amongst the crowd
And lose the sight of ‘One who paid’
For all my sins, which I’d avowed.
Each day anew I thank you Lord
For giving strength when I’m afraid
Act on your word, a sharpened sword
With promises to man you’ve made.
Oh give that modern man may see
The ‘Rock of ages’ who is free.
